Services and Therapies Available at the Rehab Hospital

  • Physical Therapy

Physical therapists evaluate and treat strength, endurance, general mobility, walking and balance issues. They will also help you with transfer techniques and wheelchair mobility.

Hands-on, individualized therapy sessions include advanced rehabilitative technology, exercises, research-based treatment techniques and manual therapy. If assisting devices are needed, such as a cane or walker, a physical therapist will evaluate and provide training on how to use them safely.

  • Speech Therapy

Speech therapists provide strategies for living with speech and language impediments as well as hands-on, computer-assisted and self-monitoring activities.

Speech therapy is focused around communication skills and swallowing difficulties that result from stroke, traumatic brain injury and neurological or nervous system disorders. Treatment helps by retraining memory, reasoning, problem solving and decision making.

  • Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists improve fine motor skills and help you relearn self-care skills such as eating, bathing, dressing and using the restroom. Skills practiced may also include getting up from furniture, housekeeping tasks and cooking.

  • Recreational Therapy

Recreational therapists work one-on-one and in group settings to improve or maintain physical, cognitive, social, and emotional functioning in order to facilitate full participation throughout your life.

Recreation services are provided or directly supervised by a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.  Individualized interventions include adaptive sports, horticulture, creative therapy, community reintegration outings, and many other activities to return you to an active leisure lifestyle. Our goal is to provide a wide variety of new or continued recreational and leisure opportunities during recovery and to share resources for their continued participation following discharge.

  • Respiratory Therapy

Respiratory therapists provide treatments to improve your ability to breathe and your quality of breathing. This treatment is for those with acute or chronic lung disease. Your respiratory therapist will provide education regarding lung and heart related illness along with training in oxygen requirements, medication use, breathing treatment and exercises for healthy lungs and energy conservation.

  • Rehabilitation Nurses

Rehabilitation nurses specialize in treatment 24 hours a day and are the foundation of your care.

Your nurses provide ongoing assessments of needs, coordination and implementation of care, re-evaluation of interventions and education, including medications and managing healthcare needs after leaving our hospital. Nurses are supported by certified nursing assistants and licensed practical nurses, and coordinate with your rehabilitation team to reinforce mobility goals from therapy sessions.

  • Dietary Specialists

Treating certain medical conditions with dietitian-supervised meal plans, dietary specialists reduce complications in pre-existing conditions and alleviate the effects of existing conditions. The role of your dietitian is to ensure proper nutrition and education for your health and well-being. You may ask to see a registered dietitian at any time during your stay.

  • Pharmacists

Medication may be an important part of your treatment plan. That is why we offer weekly classes so you can speak to your pharmacist about medication management and any concerns you might have.

  • Case Management

Your case manager helps you and your family regarding discharge plans from our rehabilitation hospital. The case manager also serves as the liaison between your family, physician, treatment team, insurance carrier and community agencies.

Upon leaving the rehabilitation hospital, you will be referred back to your primary care provider for your medical needs and your case manager will arrange additional referrals. A copy of your discharge summary will be sent to your primary care provider. You will also receive a follow-up phone call from the Case Management Department to see how you are doing with your therapy, medications and home care. They will also answer any questions you may have.
