  • Favorite things to do in Nevada: I love to attend all the events and festivals they host here!
  • Why Renown? A previous resident left quite the impression on me and spoke highly of the program that is offered, and I have been pleased to find out that it was all I had hoped for. I have seen an exponential growth in my clinical skills in the short time I have been here.
  • Interesting/Fun Fact: I 3D print... Like all the time, and I love to make life size statues of nerdy things!

  • Favorite things to do in Nevada: My hobbies! Reno is a great place for outdoor activities in general and Tahoe is just up the mountain.
  • Why Renown? I chose Renown due to its multiple PGY2 options as well as their tendency to hire their residents.
  • Interesting/Fun Fact: I have two dogs who are my children. A dachshund-schnauzer mix and a white German Shepherd.

  • Professional interests: Infectious diseases, oncology
  • Hobbies: Hiking, snowshoeing, baking, open-world video games 
  • Favorite things to do in Nevada: Spending time in the mountains, trying all the restaurants here and in Tahoe/Truckee 
  • Why Renown? I came to Renown as a 4th year student to complete my APPEs and loved the strong community in the pharmacy department and the focus on lifelong learning. I chose to stay and continue the exponential learning I have already experienced here!

Miah Thompson, PharmD  - PGY2 Emergency Medicine

  • Project: Retrospective Safety Review of IV Push Levetiracetam in Pediatric Patients
  • Professional interests: Emergency Medicine, Trauma, Cardiology 
  • Hobbies: Reading, Pilates, and paddleboarding! 
  • Favorite things to do in Nevada: Trying new restaurants/coffee spots, attending local events (Food Truck Fridays, farmers markets, etc.) and enjoying my time at Lake Tahoe! 
  • Why Renown? Renown allows residents to tailor their residency experiences to what truly interests them! The preceptors at Renown are passionate and knowledgeable about their areas of expertise, which promotes a fun environment for learning. Moving across the country for residency was daunting at first, but the knowledge I have gained from this program will allow me to comfortably work in any environment or institution!
  • Interesting/Fun Fact: I used to have pet shrimp and snails (RIP). 

 

Casey Zakrzewski, PharmD - PGY2 Infectious Diseases

  • Education: Saint John Fisher University, Rochester, NY - Doctor of Pharmacy 
  • PGY1 Residency: Sisters of Charity Hospital - Buffalo, NY 
  • Project: Enhancing Antimicrobial Stewardship in the Emergency Department through Provider-Pharmacist Collaboration and Value-Based Modifiers
  • Professional interests: Infectious Diseases, Opportunistic infections 
  • Hobbies: Frisbee golfing, reading (fiction/mystery), cooking, baking 
  • Favorite things to do in Nevada: Hiking, trying new coffee shops and restaurants, going to Lake Tahoe 
  • Why Renown? I choose Renown because of the many different opportunities available for antimicrobial stewardship and working in an outpatient hepatitis C clinic. Additionally, during the interview process, it was very clear that I would receive endless support and encouragement from my preceptors which was very important to me. 
  • Interesting/Fun Fact: I love turtles and enjoy traveling to new places around the world

  • Why Renown? Renown is a large academic institution and has an outstanding infectious diseases program. I also appreciate the strong sense of community within my residency class and the exceptional support from our preceptors! 
  • Interesting/Fun Fact: I like to build do-it-yourself miniature houses and find joy in miniature things
