October Guest Speaker Spotlight: Arrhythmias and Irregular Heartbeats with Clinical Specialists Tracy and Joanna from AtriCure Topic: Come learn about the most common type of arrhythmia, Atrial Fibrillation (AF). Renown Institute for Heart & Vascular Health proudly offers the free Cardiovascular Support Group. Please join us if you or anyone you know has been diagnosed with cardiovascular issues. Meet and get to know the Cardiovascular Quality Team from the Renown Institute for Heart & Vascular Health on the second Tuesday of every month from 2-3 p.m. This group is open to all cardiovascular patients and their families. Learn about managing and living with cardiovascular issues in a supportive group environment. Virtual attendees will receive instructions on how to join the meeting the day before the event. Complimentary refreshments and informative materials will be provided!

Renown Institute for Cancer is teaming up with Cancer Treatment Expert Renie Anderson, who is trained and certified at managing cancer treatment side effects. You can attend this workshop in person at Renown Regional or virtually via Zoom. This workshop teaches mind-body techniques to help reduce anxiety, feel calmer, visualize your treatment in a healing way and enhance healing through activities that will bring you relief. This workshop includes: Helping patients feel more connected, reducing fight/flight response and assisting patients to feel more at ease. Learning how stress impacts our bodies and our role in taking responsibility as a partner in recovery. A mindfulness relaxation session. Allowing patients to express concerns over their side effects and re-framing for a more positive experience. Open time for questions and answers. There is no charge to attend this class. Ticket includes partner. Join our Comfort Measures for Birth class and learn about your options and how to practice techniques to manage labor and birth more comfortably. This class is ideal for expecting parents, those needing a refresher in labor coping skills, or couples wanting to expand their knowledge of comfort measures for labor and birth. During this two-hour session, you will learn: Relaxation/meditation practice Breathing techniques Positions for effective laboring and birthing Use of birth ball, rebozo and other tools Massage, counter-pressure, and acupressure Hands-on comfort measures Managing back pain Visualization, vocalizing, and movement When registering, please use expecting mother’s name and information.  Please bring to class: 75 cm exercise/yoga ball Two bed pillows A mat or towel for breathing and relaxation practice

Class fee includes partner. All women have different postpartum and recovery experiences after giving birth. This 2-hour class helps prepare mom and partner on what to expect after birth and the weeks to follow, and is offered every other month and is open to mothers and their partners. Ticket includes partner. The Spinning Babies Parent Class is designed for expecting moms after the 20th week of pregnancy. This class highlights rotating the baby down and out of the pelvis. Turning (spinning) is referred to as fetal rotation and descent. During labor, the baby must rotate and descend through the three levels of the pelvis to be born. Without this movement on the baby’s part, vaginal birth is not possible. Spinning Babies Parent Class provides: Four hours of instruction and practical application Essential daily activities to give you greater ease in pregnancy and help give baby space to move and settle into the correct birth position. Balance techniques to prepare and maintain your body in a balanced, supple, and flexible condition for birth. Birth positions specific to the three levels of the pelvis as solutions when labor doesn’t move forward in a typical pattern. The day of class requirements- Support person required (significant other, friend, mom etc.) Wear comfortable clothing. Bring a large exercise ball (65-75cm), two pillows (bed pillows okay), and a large towel or yoga mat. This support group provides support, education, networking, and resource materials to caregivers coping with a loved one diagnosed with cancer. In effort to provide the most supportive atmosphere for those caring for loved one dealing with cancer, this group is for current cancer caregivers only. Joint pain can affect all aspects of life, so if you’re considering total joint replacement surgery, these classes taught by the experts at Renown Health will help you with the following: Understand your procedure, including basic anatomy and explanation of surgical intervention. Prepare for surgery, including home setup, preoperative and pre-admit appointments. Know about your hospital stay, including infection prevention, early mobility, physical and occupational therapy, and adaptive equipment. Learn what happens after surgery, including recovery, medical management, post-operative therapy and exercises, to help you return to normal activities. We highly encourage you to bring a “surgery buddy” for support.

Join us for our free virtual Smoking Cessation 4-week program courtesy of Renown Health. This class is available to all who want to learn the risks of smoking and the benefits of quitting. In addition, participants will learn about their triggers to smoking, ways to cope while quitting, and available products to assist with becoming tobacco-free. This program begins on the 1st Wednesday of each month and will meet every Wednesday for four weeks from 4 to 5 p.m. Upon registering, you will receive instructions on virtually connecting 1 day before the class.

Facilitated by a prostate cancer survivor, this no-cost support group is designed to help men cope with prostate cancer by offering education and support for patients during their cancer journey. Details: Both in-person and virtual groups are available.  Video-enabled attendance is available for all attendees.  Patients can access remotely and join from any video-enabled device (smartphone, iPad, laptop, or webcam/desktop).  Upon registering, you will receive instructions on how to connect virtually.  Groups will be held every first and third Monday of each month, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the Sierra Tower – Conference Room 103 at Renown Regional Hospital.  Please note: You can renew registrations every calendar year. The American Heart Association Family & Friends “Infant CPR and Choking” (birth to one year) course is for those who want to learn infant CPR but do NOT need a course completion card in CPR for their job. This course is ideal for schools and students, new parents, grandparents, babysitters and others interested in learning how to save a life. Skills are taught in a dynamic group environment using the AHA’s research-proven “practice-while-watching” technique, which provides students with the most hands-on CPR practice time possible.
