    Reno Home to "Great Psychiatry and Mental Health Program;" Renown and UNR School of Medicine Named to Becker's National List

    Becker’s list of Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Psychiatry and Mental Health Programs for 2023 has been published, recognizing professional healthcare leaders across the country.    Renown Health and the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine have been recognized among the top programs in the United States. This acknowledgement reflects a commitment from a dedicated team of experienced local professionals providing comprehensive mental health services and advancing the field of psychiatry.    In their announcement, Becker’s highlighted that, “In 2018, a $6 million donation (by the Stacie Mathewson Foundation), funded the creation of the Stacie Mathewson Behavioral Health & Addiction Institute at Renown Health. The institute was formed to address increased prescription drug-related mortality rates and suicide rates in northern Nevada. The department is now fully integrated with University of Nevada School of Medicine's psychiatry residency, child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship programs, and behavioral sciences and clinical psychiatry medical student training. The curriculum emphasizes the value of psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, and interventional psychiatry methods, along with primary care team integration.”   Becker’s editors noted that, “Innovative public and private partnerships with the state include the SOAR early intervention treatment program for those experiencing their first episode of psychosis. A 24-hour crisis stabilization center will open in 2024 for adults with mental health or substance use issues. The Connect Washoe County mental health collaborative, part of the hospital’s community benefit program, hosts the Youth Mental Health Summit, with a number of interventions resulting in reduced use of street and prescription drugs, lower hospitalization rates due to opioid overdose, and fewer cases of intentional suicide mortality in youth.”    “We are honored to be recognized as one of the top psychiatry and mental health programs in the U.S. This achievement reflects the dedication of our integrated team and our unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of individuals and families affected by mental health challenges.     As IV Fluid Shortages Continue Across Nation, Renown is Prepared

    Systems are in place at Renown Health to increase inventory tracking, optimize the distribution of available supplies, and improve communication to ensure that critical areas receive priority access. Healthcare facilities across the country are implementing conservation plans and warning the public of potential disruptions in elective surgical procedures since Baxter International temporarily closed a large IV fluid manufacturing site in Marion, North Carolina as a result of hurricane Helene. The Marion factory supplied 60% of the nation's IV fluids to health facilities. As the nation braces for the full impact of this IV fluid shortage, Renown Health continues to prepare for our community.  Renown is actively implementing measures to conserve its supply of IV fluids, an essential component in patient care across multiple departments.  Renown continues to provide urgent, emergency and critical care as the region’s only Level 2 trauma center for adults and children across northern Nevada, Lake Tahoe and northeast California, and continues to monitor the evolving situation while performing and successfully scheduling medically necessary procedures.     Renown Health, Pershing County and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) Announce New Outdoor Fitness Court® in Lovelock, Nev.

    Renown Health, Pershing County and NFC have teamed up to bring an outdoor Fitness Court® to Lovelock’s Amherst Park, located at 450 Amherst Ave. The court officially opened on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 11 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The National Fitness Court® initiative aims to enhance free access to quality workouts and promote equitable exercise opportunities throughout the state. The Lovelock location is one of six outdoor Fitness Courts funded by Renown Health in communities prioritizing health equity and outdoor fitness.     Renown and Great Basin College Launch 18-month Respiratory Therapist Training Program

    Training respiratory therapists as part of a healthcare team to help diagnose, treat and manage conditions to help restore or maintain lung and breathing function. Applications due Oct. 31, 2024 Great Basin College and Renown Health are partnering to bring the first Respiratory Therapy training program to educate new healthcare professionals to meet the growing needs of the community.   With the generosity of grant funders, the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust and the Health Resources and Services Administration, Great Basin College will launch the first and only available program of its kind in support of several rural northern Nevada communities. According to project leads, the program and the trained respiratory therapists will bring great value to the community and healthcare system.  “Great Basin College is thrilled to join forces with Renown Health to launch this new program and be a critical contributor to advancing the respiratory care profession for our community,” says Interim GBC President Dr. Amber Donnelli.  The program is an accelerated 18-month program resulting in an Associate of Applied Science in Cardio-Respiratory Care Science degree. It's incredibly high-tech, uses leading-edge training equipment, and provides real-world experience to students.  In-person classes will be offered at GBC campuses in Elko and Winnemucca and at Renown Health in Reno. Applications will open this June and are due October 31, 2024. The first program courses will begin in the Spring of 2025.     UNR Med's Savitt Medical Library Expands with Additional Location at Renown Regional Medical Center

    The library will have 24/7 access for UNR Med students and Renown Health employees. Today, the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) and Renown Health announced the opening of a new satellite location of the Savitt Medical Library at Renown Regional Medical Center. This new space will serve as a valuable resource for UNR Med students and Renown Health employees and physicians. The Savitt Medical Library's new satellite library will be accessible 24/7 to all Renown employees, physicians and UNR Med students who possess valid badges. The space features four computers—two connected to the Renown network and two to the UNR Med network—requiring appropriate credentials for login. “The Renown Health and UNR Med academic affiliation advances our mission of supporting the health of the people and communities we serve by advancing medical innovation, expanding upon clinical research and improving access to quality care,” said Brian Erling, MD, MBA, President & CEO, Renown Health. “The Savitt Medical Library at Renown Regional Medical Center highlights the value of the academic affiliation by providing Renown employees and physicians access to leading-edge resources and education within the heart of Renown Regional Medical Center.” In addition to its digital resources, the library offers a small collection of print books for in-library use.     Reno Rodeo Foundation Grants Three Rodeo Wishes to Renown Children’s Hospital Patients and Families

    Filling The Community’s Need for a 24/7 Pharmacy

    Beginning April 29, Renown Pharmacy – Pringle Will Be Open 24/7 Weeks after the only 24/7 pharmacy in Reno-Sparks announced it is no longer open overnight, Renown steps up to fill the community’s need, offering peace of mind knowing that any time, day or night, people can fulfill their essential medication prescriptions at Renown Pharmacy. Renown Health is pleased to announce that beginning on Monday, April 29, Renown Pharmacy - Pringle will expand hours to serve as the only 24/7 pharmacy in the area to serve all customers. The Renown Pharmacy located inside Renown Regional Medical Center will fill a gap left in the community after Walgreens on N. Virginia Street in Reno announced that they will no longer operate on a 24-hour, seven day a week schedule.     Renown Health Appoints Anna Loomis MBA As Chief Financial Officer

    Renown Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Anna Loomis, MBA, as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective July 1, 2024. Ms. Loomis will oversee all aspects of financial management for Renown Health including budgeting, financial planning, revenue cycle management, supply chain and strategic investments for Nevada’s #1 ranked health care organization.    Before joining Renown, Ms. Loomis served as Senior Vice President (SVP) and CFO with Portland-based Legacy Health, and prior to that as SVP and Chief Financial Officer for Washington-based MultiCare for more than 15 years.  With over 20 years in finance leadership and strategy, Ms. Loomis has led several transformative efforts to strengthen the organizations and build partnerships.    “We are thrilled to welcome Anna Loomis to our executive team,” said Brian Erling, MD, MBA, President & CEO for Renown Health. “Anna is an approachable, innovative, and resilient leader.
