Renown Health, Nevada’s largest, not-for-profit integrated academic healthcare network, is delighted to announce Nariman Rahimzadeh, MD, FASA as the new Vice President, Medical Affairs for Renown South Meadows Medical Center, effective immediately. Dr. Rahimzadeh is a highly respected physician leader with an extensive background in medical leadership and a proven track record of enhancing patient care, driving clinical excellence and fostering a People First culture of collaboration. As part of a larger reorganization of the physician executive oversight of Renown Health’s hospitals, he will dedicate 30% of his time to this position while continuing to actively practice as an anesthesiologist. As VP of Medical Affairs, Renown South Meadows Medical Center, Dr. Rahimzadeh will collaborate with Dr. Bill Plauth, Chief Medical Officer for Renown Health, and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the University of Nevada, Reno School of Medicine; and the yet to be filled, Vice President of Medical Affairs, Renown Regional Medical Center to support Medical and Advanced Practice Provider Staff. Together with Renown clinical and operational leaders, he will help ensure the highest standards of patient care, patient experience, and highly reliable quality and safety. Over the course of 11 years, Dr. Rahimzadeh has served as Medical Director for Surgical Services and Chief of Staff for Renown South Meadows Medical Center. Dr. Rahimzadeh will maintain his administrative and clinical responsibilities as an anesthesiologist with anesthesiology|NV. Dr. Rahimzadeh currently serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Anesthesiologists and is past President of the Nevada State Society of Anesthesiologists. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (FASA). A first-generation American who began his career at Renown (then Washoe Medical Center) as a shuttle bus driver, Dr. Rahimzadeh completed his bachelor’s degree in Pre-Medicine at the University of Nevada-Reno and is a graduate of Ross University School of Medicine in Florida. He completed two residency programs at the University of Connecticut in both Anesthesiology and Internal Medicine. He returned home to Reno as a private practice anesthesiologist in 2007. Two Open-Heart Surgeons and Two Advanced Practitioners Bring Nearly 70 Years of Local Experience. As part of a continuing focus on offering comprehensive care for patients experiencing cardiac and vascular disease across northern Nevada, Renown Health Department of Surgery and Renown Institute for Heart & Vascular Health have developed Renown’s first division of cardiothoracic surgery dedicated to heart surgery patients. “Today, I am proud to announce cardiothoracic surgeons, Athan Roumanas, M.D., FACS, and Joseph Brandl, M.D., FACS, who have more than 45 years of combined experience caring for northern Nevadans in need of open-heart surgery, will lead this new practice at Renown,” said Anthony Slonim, M.D., Dr.PH., FACHE, President and CEO of Renown Health. “Advanced practitioners Cindy Powers and Ashley White bring another 23 years of expert care to our community and the new division of cardiothoracic surgery.” Dr. Roumanas has 18 years of experience in northern Nevada. Jessa Mae Estrada, 26, of Reno gave birth to baby Oli Amelia Estrada at 3:59 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2021. Baby Oli weighed 5 pounds, 14.4 ounces and was the first 2021 birth at any of the region’s hospitals.  “Baby Oli’s birth serves as a beautiful symbol of hope for all of us as we look forward to brighter days ahead full of joy, promise and new beginnings,” said Tony Slonim, MD, DrPH, Renown’s President and CEO. “As we take time to reflect on the many challenges and uncertainties brought on in 2020, I will never forget the steadfast determination and resilience demonstrated by our entire community. The annual Art for Recovery event features artwork from 13 local artists inspired by the Stacie Mathewson Behavioral Health & Addiction Institute mission. Sales will benefit the Institute. Renown Health Foundation hosts Art for Recovery at the Stacie Mathewson Behavioral Health & Addiction Institute on Thursday, Sept. 23 from 4-7 p.m. The annual fundraising event is free, open to the public and benefits the Stacie Mathewson Behavioral Health & Addiction Institute at Renown, located at 85 Kirman Ave. in Reno, Nev. The family-friendly event features an art auction, live DJ, craft vendors, activities for kids and refreshments. Established in 2018, the Stacie Mathewson Behavioral Health & Addiction Institute at Renown focuses on expanding community access to prevention and intervention services for mental health disorders and alcohol and drug addiction, with the goal of decreasing stigma and encouraging more people to seek help. The annual Art for Recovery fundraiser features the artwork of 13 local artists who have created pieces inspired by the Institute's mission. After careful consideration, Renown Health has made the decision to close Monaco Ridge, the assisted living community located on the Renown South Meadows Medical Center campus, in an ongoing effort to ensure the highest quality and most appropriate care for our community.
