The Forever Young Foundation has supported the development of eight Sophie’s Places across the United States. The opening at Renown Health is the ninth Sophie’s Place location to provide music therapy to young people in children’s hospitals across the nation. Two years ago, on June 5, 2022, over 500 generous donors attended a benefit concert by The Beach Boys with front man Mike and his wife Jacquelyne Love, both Nevada residents; and special guests Steve and Barb Young, to help Renown Health Foundation raise a remarkable $1.2 million to construct the first and only Sophie’s Place in Nevada. The Forever Young Foundation established Sophie’s Place in 2013 in loving memory of Sophie Barton, a young musician with a passion for helping others, who passed away in 2010. Sophie served and played her guitar at Primary Children’s Hospital in Utah. Sophie's Place was inspired by Barb Young, a close friend of the Barton family and an avid believer in the science of music therapy. Two pediatric gastroenterologists bring life-saving care to kids and make Renown their new home The Renown Children’s Hospital team and our community is celebrating the addition of a new life-saving pediatric specialty to its practice serving children and families in northern Nevada. Parents and guardians will now be able to seek professional pediatric gastroenterologist care with the addition of Drs. Juan Gregory and Kathleen Holland to Renown Medical Group. “Recognizing the importance of diagnosing and caring for children who have conditions that affect the organs in the digestive system, including the stomach, liver and bowel, while also helping children who have issues feeding and eating, is critically important to us at Renown,” said Kristina Deeter, MD, MBA, FAAP, Chair of Pediatrics, University of Nevada Reno School of Medicine (UNR Med) and Physician-in-Chief, Renown Children’s Hospital. “Both Drs. Renown Health wishes you and your loved ones a Merry Christmas This time of the year, Santa and his reindeer; Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen and Rudolph, travel across the world on Christmas Eve. Santa stops at millions of homes to deliver toys and gifts- and to enjoy a quick snack of milk and cookies. This year the elves at the Renown Transfer and Operations Center (RTOC) will use their command center in south Reno to track Santa’s progress (of course, while continuing to customize the care experience for every patient at Renown). Starting on the morning of Christmas Eve, the specially trained RTOC elves will work with the elves at the North Pole to get a live feed using Santa’s sleigh GPS. With this advanced technology, they will track his progress and anticipate when he will arrive here in northern Nevada. “I am deeply grateful to the thousands of Renown care givers who will be working throughout the holiday to care for patients and their families. I am excited that we will also have elves in the RTOC tracking Santa’s journey over Christmas Eve this year,” said Dr. Brian Erling, President & CEO of Renown Health. “Along with watching Santa’s flight path on Christmas Eve, the RTOC team is dedicated to being the ‘eye in the sky’ for patient care coordination across the Renown Health system.” Renown’s elves are expecting that Santa and his reindeer will start their biggest night of the year in the South Pacific before heading to New Zealand and Australia. Dolan Pulmonary Rehabilitation program at Renown South Meadows Medical Center by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). AACVPR certification demonstrates that an organization's Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program is aligned with current guidelines set by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation for appropriate and effective early outpatient care of patients with cardiac or pulmonary issues. Certification offers peace of mind, so that patients can feel confident in knowing that staff has the experience and skills necessary to coordinate the many issues faced by people receiving a life-changing cardiac or pulmonary diagnosis. AACVPR Program Certification is the only peer-review accreditation process designed to review individual programs for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by AACVPR and other related professional societies.  In November 2019, Tom Dolan, owner and founder of Dolan Auto Group, donated to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation at Renown South Meadows Medical Center after his personal experience thriving in pulmonary rehabilitation brought northern Nevada’s capabilities, and needs, to his attention. His generous donation has allowed Renown to double the number of patients who receive treatment and increase the access to pulmonary rehab in our community. “As a former patient myself, I found so much benefit in my pulmonary rehab,” said Dolan. “I have always wanted to support this program and increase the number of people it serves.
