Under the direction of the Clinical Laboratory Management, the incumbent is accountable for ensuring that appropriate and timely specimen handling, delivery, specimen testing, results reporting and customer service are provided in an efficient and cost effective manner in accordance with laboratory and hospital policies and procedures. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring that all laboratory procedures being performed in areas of responsibility will comply with all regulatory, accrediting, and licensure requirements.
This position will be required to work a flexible schedule that may include evenings and weekends and provide coverage for the department as needed.
The primary responsibility for this position will include one of the following (or a combination of all) areas in the Clinical Laboratory:
· Microbiology: includes the subspecialties of Bacteriology, Mycology, Mycobacteriology, Virology, Parasitology and Molecular Microbiology.
· Core Laboratory 1: includes General and Special Chemistry, Blood gases, Immunology, and Serology, knowledge of automation line and Remisol Interface preferred.
· Core Laboratory 2: includes Hematology, Coagulation, Special Coagulation and Urinalysis.
· Transfusion Services (Blood Bank): includes Blood Transfusion medicine, and Blood Utilization and Waste.
· Histology: includes Histology Tissue Grossing, Processing, Embedding, sectioning and Staining. Preferred knowledge of cytology, including GYN and Non –GYN specimens and Pap Smear preparation and reading is suggested, IHC and special stains, Bone Marrow processing and Transcription.
· Quality Management and Quality Control: Directs the collection of data for studies related to quality improvement; including monitoring of patient turn-around times (TAT); Uses Transformational Health Care fundamentals to optimize our patient’s health care experience. Manages CAP inspections with oversight of laboratory document control to meet accreditation standards.
