Position Purpose

The IR Technologist_Specialty Rep functions as a lead technician, a clinical supply coordinator, and principal trainer to support in the day-to-day operations of the interventional radiology department.

 

When functioning as a specialty rep, the technologist is responsible for providing patient care. This position is responsible for rounding with providers and communicating physician specific needs and updates to supply chain and leadership. The IR Technologist_Specialty Rep is also responsible for coordinating training on new equipment, supplies, and procedures. This position will be the main contact for vendors, biomedical engineering, and supply chain in regard to interventional radiology.

 

 

 

Nature and Scope

This position serves a patient population of Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric. The incumbent must provide optimal patient care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of neonatal, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, and families. The incumbent provides technical skills as a member of the interventional radiology team, communicating with supervisors, other radiology staff, physicians, and anesthesiologists.

 

The demands on this position are very dynamic due to rapid changes in medical procedures, technical knowledge, instrumentation, equipment, policies, procedures, and physician preferences in equipment, instruments, wires, supplies and more. The incumbent has the freedom to decide the type of equipment and supplies required for the interventional radiologic care of the patient relative to the physician preference and knowledge of the procedure. In addition, the specialty rep will identify any breakdown in aseptic technique and take appropriate action. The incumbent ensures equipment is working properly before procedure, cares for equipment after procedure, and is responsible for reporting equipment that is not working properly or broken.

 

This position provides patient care of a highly technical nature. The technologist is responsible for supplying the interventional radiology lab with the proper equipment and instrumentation that is needed for specific procedure. During the procedure, the primary responsibility of the technologist is to perform as a first assist, set up the sterile tray, maintain the sterility of the procedural field/room, to anticipate the needs of the physicians, and operating equipment and supply in a timely fashion. The incumbent must competently operate the interventional imaging equipment and related machinery, verifies, and executes physician’s orders for diagnostic and therapeutic exams, ensures the proper preparation for such exams, and ensures the safety and well-being of the patients during the procedure. Other duties include, but are not limited to, circulating, manipulation of lines and drains, suturing, billing, and filming, supply stocking, chart documentation, and quality improvement activities. Other daily duties include determining the best method of obtaining interventional examinations while ensuring patient safety, regulating patient flow, consulting with radiologists to determine contrast media applications or variances in established procedures, continually evaluating exam quality and correcting as indicated.

 

Once the procedure is completed it is the responsibility of the technologist to care for the instrumentation, equipment and prepare for the following case.

 

This position will provide any assistance needed to expedite the room turnover thereby, providing optimum customer service to the physician, patient, anesthesiologist, and co-workers. In addition, this position is responsible for supply inventory, updating written procedures; meeting with company representatives with regards to new supplies and equipment and other duties required to ensure optimum utilization of the service.

 

This position in cooperation with the education and the management team provides training for staff. This position assists in coordinating staff assignments for their respective service specialty. Additional responsibilities may include maintaining the call schedule to provide continuous service.

 

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to:

• Working closely with nursing, supply chain personnel, biomedical engineering, and data management partner to accurately maintain inventory supply and equipment lists within the department.

• Assisting in the needs of physician(s) and inventory control.

• May assist in the selection of appropriate supply or equipment to be used based on surgery schedule.

• Coordinating review sessions with staff and physicians to ensure knowledge of any recent changes or needs.

• Assisting in generating requests for new instruments and equipment to be added to system.

• Researching new as well as existing items with the help of inventory supply chain personnel to accurately maintain the charge capture data in Epic.

• Meet routinely with IR leaders and supply chain analyst to evaluate changes and opportunities for cost savings.

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

Experience:

Minimum one year as an IR Technologist required.

License(s):

Requires American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) R.T. (R) certification or Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS). State of Nevada Radiation Control Program License.

Certification(s):

Current BLS certification by the American Heart Association standards required upon hire. Intro to ECG Interpretation class required within 6 months of hire.

Computer / Typing:

Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.
