Position Purpose

Physician_CVH Anesthesiology is an operative and perioperative position with Renown Medical Group, providing medical care to each patient throughout his/her surgical experience at Carson Valley Health. Position is responsible for administering anesthesia leading up to and during surgical procedures, including meeting with patients before surgery, assessing vitals during surgery, and monitoring recovery post-surgery. In addition, Physician will participate in the management of patient’s acute and chronic pain postoperatively in the acute setting, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and advanced cardiac life support, and critically ill patients in intensive care units. Physician may supervise anesthesia assistants and certified registered nurse anesthetists.

 

 

 

Nature and Scope

The incumbent obtains history, examines, diagnoses, counsels, and treats patients within the physician’s area of specialty and experience. The incumbent makes critical decisions regarding medical care. The incumbent works closely and in cooperation with surgeons, hospitalists, nursing staff, department of surgery leadership, the management staff, directs comments and questions to the appropriate management person and follows administrative policies. The incumbent actively participates in physician governance meetings, management decisions, and follows policies adopted by Renown Health and its medical staff. The incumbent stays abreast of current advances in medicine by reviewing recent publications, attending in-services and educational meetings, and attending continuing medical education programs in the appropriate field.

Ability to function effectively in an integrated delivery system.

1. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulatory rules;

2. Capable of operating business units in conformance with good quality and business practices as may be outlined by agencies such as The Joint Commission, NCQA, MGMA, etc.

3. Effective leadership skills (and leading by example);

4. Ability to obtain results with minimal disruption while involving a variety of internal and external groups.

5. Ability to work independently.

 

DUTIES:

1. Administering pain relief before, during, and after medical procedures;

2. Monitoring patients’ vital signs during and after procedures;

3. Supervising anesthesia assistants and certified registered nurse anesthetists;

4. Approving general, sedative, regional, or local anesthetics;

5. Reviewing medical files and lab results;

6. Informing patients of risks associated with anesthesia;

7. Complying with medical and hospital procedure policy

8. Teach students and resident assigned to anesthesia rotation

 

This position does provide patient care.

Name

Description

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English.

Experience:

Experience in Cardiothoracic, Obstetrics, pediatrics and regional anesthesia techniques a plus.

License(s):

Must possess and maintain a current and valid State of Nevada Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) medicine license. Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required.

Certification(s):

Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in Anesthesiology through the American Board of Anesthesiology. If Provider is Board Eligible at time of hire, Board Certification must be obtained within two (2) years of employment.

 

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Certification Life Support (ACLS) required. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA) approved certification, but will accept online certification from American Red Cross Training Services, Advanced Medical Certification, or ACLS Certification Institute.

Computer / Typing:

Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

 

Ability to credential through CVH's Medical Staff and/or payor credentialing, as applicable.
